Forest Green 1-0 Kettering

Kayode Odejay's second-half strike gave Forest Green a narrow victory in the Nationwide Conference basement battle at The Lawn.

The former Bristol City apprentice scored his fourth goal of the season when he turned Neil Grayson's left-wing cross past Ian Bowling.

Grayson had the first real chance of the game for Forest Green but he blazed his 25-yard effort over Ian Bowling's crossbar in the 19th minute.

Moments later Garry Hughes had a great chance to put Kettering ahead but saw Rovers keeper Steve Perrin stop his poorly directed header.

But the best chance of the first half fell to Poppies centre-half Mark Haran a minute before the interval but his weak header from six yards out drifted narrowly wide.

Grayson again went close for the hosts shortly after the break but Bowling just got his fingers to the ex-Cheltenham man's 25-yard drilled effort.

Bottom club Kettering struggled to get into the game and were lucky the lead was not doubled when Odejayi was handed a golden opportunity but he also sent his header wide from eight yards out.

Grayson again had a glorious opportunity when he met Gary Owers' free-kick but he too sent his header wide of Bowling's left post.

Perrin produced a stunning savefive minutes from the end to preserve his clean sheet from Dale Watkins' powerful header after Scott Goodwin's in-swinging corner.
