Southport 0-0 Kettering
Southport and Kettering both squandered decent chances as an entertaining match at Haig Avenue ended in a goalless draw. Southport almost got the perfect start after two minutes when Mark Lloyd-Williams hammered a controlled volley narrowly past goalkeeper Ian Bowling's right-hand post. Bowling's goal was threatened again shortly afterwards by a close-range header from Barry Jones which the keeper did well to hold. But Kettering fought their way back into the match and Richard Butcher twice went close with decent efforts from outside the box. Midfielder Neil Gibson looked certain to open the scoring for Southport on the stroke of half-time but dragged his six-yard shot wide of the post. Moments after the restart Butcher missed an equally promising chance by heading high over the bar. With time running out, Gibson was given a chance to redeem himself but from close range he again missed the target as Kettering held on for a point.
