Boston 0-0 Southport
E-mail your reaction to Football Talk Boston failed to close the gap on Conference leaders Dagenham & Redbridge after being held to a goalless draw. Boston had the better of the opening play and had the best chance on eight minutes when Mark Angel's right-footed effort was saved by Southport keeper Steven Dickinson. Southport replied moments later when a corner from Chris Lane was heading toward the far post, only for Simon Rusk to clear the danger. Angel was involved in Boston's next attack on goal, when his corner met Simon Weatherstone, who headed the ball wide. The game settled down but neither side could penetrate the defences to break the deadlock. Southport's Lee Elam sent the ball goalward but his shot was weak and easily dealt with by Boston keeper Paul Bastock. In the second half, Boston boss Steve Evans made a tactical change by replacing Mark Angel with Jamie Cook. Boston survived another scare when a dangerous corner from Lake was headed over the bar by Parke. Boston continued to push forward in search of a goal but Anthony Elding's shot straight at Dickinson when he had a good chance in the final moments.
Boston Utd: Bastock, Clifford, Ross Weatherstone, Scott, Gould, Brown, Rusk, Simon Weatherstone, Angel, Elding, Clare. Subs: Town, Murphy, Cook, Lodge, Conroy.
