Kettering sack manager Morris
Peter Morris
Morris has paid the price for poor results
Manager Peter Morris has parted company with the Conference's bottom side Kettering Town.

The former Norwich City player's last game in charge was Saturday's 5-1 home defeat in the relegation dogfight against Morecambe.

Assistant manager Ernie Moss also leaves Rockingham Road, with club captain Colin Vowden and team-mate Carl Shutt taking over in a caretaker capacity.

In January, Morris was given a vote of confidence after the club's FA Trophy defeat by Histon.

But the Poppies have not won since November, and the manager has paid the price for a catalogue of poor results.

It was his second spell in charge, in which he took the side to a Conference runners-up spot in 1999 and the FA Trophy Final a year later where they were defeated 3-2 by Kingstonian.

During his previous period in charge, Kettering gained five consecutive top five finishes, and also reached the FA Cup third and fourth rounds proper.
