Team news

Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri hands debuts to summer signings Glen Johnson, Wayne Bridge, Geremi, Juan Sebastian Veron and Damien Duff.

But there is no place for Joe Cole and Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink, who have to settle for a place on the bench with Eidur Gudjohnsen and Mikael Forssell starting up front.

Newcastle boss Sir Bobby Robson, who is without injured duo Hugo Viana and Clarence Acuna, opts to leave Jermaine Jenas on the bench.

Celtic make two changes from the side that drew with Dunfermline at the weekend, with Stanislav Varga and Chris Sutton returning in place of the injured Johan Mjallby and Shaun Maloney.

Rangers boss Alex McLeish sticks with the same side that beat Kilmarnock 4-0 on the opening day of the Scottish Premier League season.
