Portillo rescues Real
Borussia Dortmund striker Jan Koller
Koller gave Dortmund an early lead
Borussia Dortmund 1-1 Real Madrid

Champions League holders Real Madrid needed a last-gasp equaliser from Javier Portillo to salvage a draw with Borussia Dortmund.

Real trailed to German champions Borussia Dortmund at half time after giant striker Jan Koller had found the net in the 23rd minute.

And the Spaniards were heading for defeat until, two minutes into stoppage time, Zinedine Zidane rolled a pass across the area for substitute Portillo to score.

Real remain second in Group C with five points, while Dortmund are third with four.

The Spanish giants next face AC Milan, who have already qualified for the quarter-finals, at home on 12 March.

Real, who scraped a 2-1 home win over Dortmund last week, put their hosts under sustained pressure for most of the second half.

But they were denied by brave defending and a faultless show from goalkeeper Jens Lehmann until Portillo's equaliser.

Dortmund wasted several chances in an energetic start before Koller fired them ahead with a powerful angled effort from close range.

The visitors threatened in the eighth minute when Raul latched on to a fine pass over the Dortmund defence from Ronaldo, but his attempt and follow-up were blocked.

The Spanish side pressed forward after falling behind, Ronaldo firing straight at Lehmann and were again denied by the Dortmund goalkeeper.

Dortmund, cheered on by over 52,000 faithful supporters in their sold-out Westfalen stadium, braced themselves for victory.

But Portillo spoilt the party with his goal right at the death.
