Bellamy gets three-game ban
Bellamy sees red for his clash with Materazzi
Newcastle's Craig Bellamy has been banned for three Champions League matches by Uefa following his red card against Inter Milan.
Uefa's disciplinary panel sat on Tuesday to review video evidence of the Welshman's clash with Marco Materazzi in the 4-1 defeat at St James' Park on 27 November. Bellamy, who was automatically banned for the Group A defeat in Barcelona last week, will now also miss February's home and away games with Bayer Leverkusen. But he will be available for the return game with Inter in Milan on 11 March.
Bellamy has already served a three-match Champions League ban this season for butting Dinamo Kiev's Tiberiu Ghioane. Newcastle skipper Alan Shearer was convicted on video evidence after elbowing Fabio Cannavaro during the Inter game. That meant both of Newcastle's first-choice strikers were missing during the 3-1 defeat by Barcelona last week. Shearer is definitely banned for United's trip to Bayer Leverkusen on 18 February. Bellamy has until 2300 GMT on Saturday to decide whether to appeal against the punishment.
