Bolivian midfielder Erwin Sanchez gave Boavista a 1-0 home win against Nantes.

The goal came in the 24th minute when Brazilian striker Elpidio Silva headed a long throw-in on to the unmarked Bolivian.

Nantes goalkeeper Mickael Landreau stopped Sanchez's volley but could not hold the ball, which bounced and then rolled back into the net.

The match saw few scoring chances for either side.

And Silva missed Boavista's best chance to go 2-0 up when his shot five minutes from time inside the area was deflected by Landreau's right foot.

Nantes' only real chance came in the 53rd minute.

A powerful 25-metre drive from Frederic da Rocha forced goalkeeper Ricardo Pereira to dive and deflect the ball past the right post.
