Bayern Munich march on
Juventus last won the European Cup in 1996
BBC Sport Online reviews all Tuesday's matches in the Champions League.
European champions Bayern Munich were one of six clubs who qualified for the second phase of the Champions League on Tuesday. Bayern were joined in the last 16 by fellow Germans Bayer Leverkusen, Manchester United, Deportivo La Coruna, Juventus, and Barcelona. With Real Madrid and Sparta Prague qualifying last week, there are still eight more places up for grabs. Group E
The 1996 European champions Juventus top the group after they came from behind to beat Porto 3-1 in Turin. The Brazilian Clayton gave Porto a shock 13th-minute lead. But goals from Alessandro Del Piero, Paolo Montero and David Trezeguet ensured a Juventus win.
Celtic crashed to 2-0 defeat against Rosenborg in Norway. The Scottish champions were undone by their former player Harald Brattback, who scored two first-half goals.
Celtic will now have to beat Juventus in their final home game and hope Porto draw or lose to Rosenborg in Oporto. Group H Bayern made sure of their place in the second group phase with a convincing 3-1 win over Feyenoord. Bayern took the lead after 12 minutes through a deflection from Feyenoord defender Ulrich van Gobbel. The Dutch champions equalised in the 25th minute, with a goal from Swedish striker Johan Elmander. But a brace from Paraguay's Roque Santa Cruz sealed Bayern's win. Sparta Prague needed a last-minute equaliser from Peter Babnic to salvage a 2-2 draw at Spartak Moscow. The Russians twice took the lead through Brazilian striker Luis Robson and Vladimir Bestchastnykh, but the visitors struck back through Radim Holub and then Babnic. Group F Bayer Leverkusen guaranteed Germany two teams in the last 16, with a 2-1 win at Fenerbahce in Istanbul. Bernd Schneider and veteran striker Ulf Kirsten gave Leverkusen a two goal first-half lead. Oktay Derelioglu grabbed Fernerbahce's consolation goal. The defeat means that the Turkish side have still yet to win a point in the competition.
Barcelona needed a last gasp winner to beat Lyon 3-2 away.
The Catalan side had raced to a 2-0 first-half lead courtesy of goals from Patrick Kluivert and Rivaldo. Lyon replied, with goals in the second-half from Peguy Luyindula and Eric Carriere in the 88th minute. But Barca substitute Gerard stole victory in injury time as Lyon goalkeeper Gregory Coupet joined his teammates up front. The only consolation for the French was the fact they will continue in the Uefa Cup later in the season because Fenerbahce cannot dislodge them from third place. Group G Deportivo La Coruna confirmed their place in the next round after drawing 1-1 with Lille in the Riazor stadium. Diego Tristan put Depor in front before Bruno Cheyrou equalised for Lille. Manchester United are also guaranteed a top-two finish in the group after they scored three goals in the final 11 minutes to beat Olympiakos 3-0.
Ruud van Nistelrooy missed a penalty, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ryan Giggs and
van Nistelrooy got on the scoresheet to seal the victory.
