O'Neill targets away win
Agathe, Petrov and Balde trudge off the park in Porto
Agathe, Petrov and Balde trudge off the park in Porto
Celtic manager Martin O'Neill has set his players a target of winning their next Champions League match against Rosenborg following the disappointing 3-0 loss to Porto.

An impressive Porto side eased their way to victory in the Estadio das Antas with a goal in each half from Ferreira Cruz Clayton, who scored in the first and 61st minutes, and a strike on the stroke of half-time by Mario Silva.

At 2-0 down some Celtic fans may have been recallling the way their favourites battled back bravely to level the opening game of the campaign with Juventus in Turin only to lose out to a dubious penalty in the final minute.

However, a fightback never looked likely against motivated and highly skillful opponents.

We looked tired - these are big games for us

O'Neill admitted his team did not perform on the night against last season's Portuguese league runners-up.

"We didn't play well enough, we didn't have enough energy," admitted O'Neill.

"We defended poorly as well."

O'Neill also highlighted his side's uphill task after conceding a goal in the first minute.

"We were always chasing the match," he said. "We looked tired - these are big games for us.

"Porto were a very good side tonight. The thing we didn't want to do was give them an early goal so they could settle."

The Irishman has repeatedly stated his belief that ten points will be enough to secure passage into the second group phase of the competition.

Celtic now lie third in Group E with six points following two wins and two defeats. Porto have seven to their name with Juventus one point better off again.

"We've got two games to try and do something. The competition is there for us to do something with.

"At Rosenborg we will have to win the game which we are more than capable of doing."

Celtic's final group match is against Juventus at Parkhead.
