Wednesday Champions League round-up

Sparta Prague have become the second side to qualify for the second phase having racked up 10 points in Group H.

Sparta qualified on Wednesday, a day after Real Madrid also went through, on a night which left Groups E, F and G finely poised.

Group E

Juventus went top of the group by beating Rosenborg 1-0 in Turin.

Frenchman David Trezeguet scored the decisive goal.

The result gave Rosenborg an unwanted record. It was their ninth straight Champions League defeat, taking them past the mark set by Galatasaray.

Porto leapfrogged Celtic into second place by beating them 3-0. Clayton Cruz weighed in with two of the goals and Mario Silva grabbed the other as the Portuguese side dominated the game.

Group F

Barcelona ruined Bayer Leverkusen's 100% start to the Champions League with a 2-1 win at the Nou Camp.

Patrick Kluivert and Luis Enrique scored for the Spanish side, with Carsten Ramelow getting the consolation for the visitors.

The result puts Barça top of the group on goal difference.

Lyon came back from a goal down to beat Fenerbahce 3-1.

Sidney Govou, Eric Carriere and Christophe Delmotte scored for the French side to cancel out the opener from Oktay Derelioglu.

The Turkish outfit are still looking for their first point of this season's Champions League.

Group G

Deportivo La Coruna went ahead of Manchester United at the top of the group by beating the English champions 3-2 at Old Trafford.

Diego Tristan starred for the Spanish league leaders, scoring two goals, and Sergio weighed in with the other.

Dutch striker Ruud van Nistelrooy scored both of United's goals in a game marked by glaring errors by United goalkeeper Fabien Barthez, who was at fault for two of Deportivo's goals.

Olympiakos beat Lille 2-1 in Athens to draw level with them on four points.

Alekos Alexandris and Andreas Niniadis scored second-half goals for the Greek side to cancel out a first-half strike from Lille's Salaheddine Bassir.

Group H

Sparta Prague followed Real Madrid into the next round with a 2-0 win over Feyenoord.

Jiri Jarosik and Jiri Novotny scored either side of half-time for the Czech outfit.

Feyenoord were forced to play the last quarter-of-an hour with only nine men after two of their players were sent off.

Pierre van Hooijdonk was their first, for serious foul play, and Ferry de Haan followed him when he was shown his second yellow card.

Bayern Munich continued their recent run of outstanding form by trouncing Spartak Moscow 5-1 at home.

Claudio Pizarro and Giovane Elber grabbed two goals apiece for Bayern with Alexander Zickler getting the other.

Vladimir Beschastnykh got the consolation for the Russians.
