Bayern Munich players
Bayern players will hope to line up for a Super Cup medal
BBC Sport Online profiles Champions League finalists Bayern Munich.

Oliver Kahn
Kahn: Inspired Champions League triumph
Oliver Kahn
Goalkeeper
Age 31:

The German international is widely regarded as one of the world's finest goalkeepers.

Made the crucial saves in the Champions League final shoot-out that ensured victory for his side.

Marshals his defence well and is an excellent shot stopper.

Stefan Wessels
Goalkeeper
Age 21:

Has displayed maturity beyond his years every time he has had to deputise for Kahn.

Wessels would be an automatic first-choice at most Bundesliga clubs and may choose to move on soon.

Patrik Andersson
Defender
Age 29:

The veteran Swedish international is an efficient player who leads the defence with calm authority.

Both Ciriaco Sforza and Jens Jeremies have also been tried as Bayern libero, but neither has been as reassuring as Andersson.

Samuel Kuffour
Defender
Age 24:

The Ghanaian international is a fine defender when he can hold his nerve.

Has been criticised by club bosses for concentrating more on his salary demands than on his performances but made amends with two faultless displays in the semi-final against Real Madrid.

Bixente Lizarazu
Lizarazu likes to bring the ball forward
Bixente Lizarazu
Defender
Age 31:

The speedy wing-back is a reliable defender who also likes to attack down the left flank.

Manchester United and Liverpool reportedly made him a summer target.

Willy Sagnol
Defender
Age 24:

Another quality French wing-back. Sagnol has won his first international caps since joining Bayern from Monaco at the start of the season.

But also attracted unwanted publicity by criticising the atmosphere at Bayern.

Thomas Linke
Defender
Age 31:

The German international joined Bayern from Schalke 04 in 1998 and is an experienced central defender.

Like Kuffour, he went through a worrying spell of form earlier in the season but has recovered since then.

Michael Tarnat
Defender
Age 31:

Often a susbtitute, but a precious one who can play anywhere at the back and can also act as a defensive midfielder.

Stefan Effenberg
Bayern's captain Marvel
Stefan Effenberg
Midfielder
Age 32:

The former German international is Bayern's most influential player.

He is strong, mobile and a capable playmaker.

Scored Bayern's goal in normal time in the Champions League final.

Mehmet Scholl
Midfielder
Age 30:

One of the few genuinely creative German players currently plying their trade.

Scholl is back to his best after suffering a string of injuries over the past few seasons.

He is a fast, skillful and unpredictable player who is also dangerous from set pieces.

Hasan Salihamidzic
Midfielder
Age 24:

The Bosnian international is a discreet player who often goes unnoticed but his tireless activity is vital to the side.

An attacking midfielder who can set up chances for the strikers nicely and is also a useful goalscorer.

Owen Hargreaves
Hargreaves: England international
Owen Hargreaves
Midfielder
Age 20:

Played in the final of the Champions League against Valencia and has since gone on to win his first international cap for England against Holland.

Has playmaking skills, tireless energy and plenty of self-confidence.

Paulo Sergio
Forward
Age 30:

The Brazilian international is comfortable as an attacking midfielder or in a striker's role but has complained recently about being left on the bench.

Has a reputation for scoring important goals.

Giovane Elber
Striker
Age 28:

Another Brazilian international who understands the demands of European football while retaining the silky South American touch.

Elber is a gifted striker with scoring instincts who is very popular with the Bayern fans.

Karsten Jancker
Jancker: Poses big ariel threat
Carsten Jancker
Striker
Age 26:

This towering striker has gained a new dimension since joining from Rapid Vienna in 1996.

Surprisingly clever technically for such a tall player. Unlucky not to have won the 1999 final for Bayern when his over-head kick hit the woodwork.

Alexander Zickler
Striker
Age 27:

A tremendously fast forward with a taste for swift counter-attacks, he is the ideal player to bring on for the last few minutes of a match.

Often scores decisive goals in the closing stages.

Roque Santa Cruz
Striker
Age 19:

The Paraguayan teenager was hailed as a unique talent when he joined from Olimpia Asuncion two years ago.

Has great potential but has not made his big breakthrough yet.
