Clockwatch: Valencia 3-0 Leeds
Latest score and action from Spain
All the action from Spain as Leeds bid for a place in the Champions League final failed at the hands of a superior Valencia side.

0 mins: Kick-off in the 52,000 capacity Mestalla Stadium in Valencia.

Leeds have Eirik Bakke in for the suspended Lee Bowyer, and all but Ian Harte are lining up with shaven heads for the club's biggest game in 26 years.

Harte has been exempt from the barber shop bonding due to his forthcoming wedding.

Alan Smith, David Batty, Bakke, Olivier Dacourt and Dominic Matteo are all one yellow card away from missing any final appearance through suspension.

The Spaniards have Argentinian playmaker Pablo Aimar starting the match in an attacking line-up which includes Kily Gonzalez, John Carew and Juan Sanchez.

2: Intense pressure from the hosts ends in Gaizka Mendieta firing a right-footed shot from the left, which Nigel Martyn palms away at full stretch.

4: Danny Mills is at the heart of Leeds' first attack, but his right wing cross is taken comfortably by Spanish keeper Santiago Canizares.

8: A Harte free kick is headed across the box by Smith but Bakke cannot reach the ball at the far post - goal kick.

10: Harry Kewell's testing left wing cross is punched away by Canizares with the keeper under pressure from Smith's attempted header.

13: Rio Ferdinand has to be alert to turn behind a Carew cross from the right, with Juan Sanchez ready to pounce at the near post.

14: Danny Mills fouls the tricky Aimar on the Valencia right. Sanchez heads over Mendieta's free kick.

Leeds appeal for handball after the goal
15: A super cross from the right from Mendiata and Juan Sanchez uses either the top of his arm or his shoulder to push the ball into the far corner past Martyn. The unmarked scorer was trying to head the ball - Martyn appeals for handball but the referee does not see any offence.
Valencia 1-0 Leeds

17: Goalscorer Sanchez scythes down Mills on the touchline - and receives the first yellow card of the night.

21: Corner to Leeds after Mark Viduka's clever backheel and Smith's persistence. Jocelyn Angloma clears the corner - Batty can do nothing with a run back into the area.

26: Mendieta's forceful run takes him half the length of the field but his attempted through ball cannot find Aimar.

27: Leeds are on the attack again with Bakke's header from a corner being blocked, followed by a goalmouth scramble and Kewell's rising long range effort.

29: A late challenge from Dacourt on Mendieta but the Frenchman escapes a final suspension and the referee merely has a word.

30: More positive action from Dacourt but after a super run, his shot from 30 yards is straight at Canizares.

32: An offside flag incorrectly halts another Leeds attack - remember an equaliser from the visitors will put them ahead on away goals.

34: More hope for the visitors - a fine piece of control at the byline from Viduka and he cuts it back for Batty to fire straight at Canizares.

35: Canizares saves again - this time from Smith's shot across the goal from the left.

36: Carew pulls away from his marker but cannot properly direct Mendieta's left-footed cross from the right.

37: Mills collides with Kily Gonzalez inside the Leeds area - but no penalty just an incorrect corner decision. Carew's header from the kick is deflected over by Ferdinand. The next corner is also dangerous but cleared after a scramble.

Viduka (seated) wastes Leeds best early chance
40: Leeds waste a great chance with Viduka heading Kewell's latest testing cross wide - the Australian's contact was glancing when it should have been thumping.

42: From another Valencia corner Roberto Ayala leaps high above two defenders at the far post but his header goes just past Martyn's left-hand upright.

45: With one minute of inury time revealed, Leeds take a corner they won after Mauricio Pellegrino blocked Smith's effort at the far post. The attack comes to nothing.

A pulsating half of end-to-end football ends with Leeds behind but still very much in the game.

Second half: No changes from either side after the break.

46: Leeds are stunned. Within a minutes and 40 seconds of the restart Valencia - and Juan Sanchez scores again. There is no doubt about this one - with the player firing past a stranded Martyn from 35 yards.
Valencia 2-0 Leeds

49: Leeds attack - but Valencia are dangerous on the break, with Aimar finding Mendieta, but his touch is too heavy and Martyn gathers.

51: It looks desperate for Leeds now. This time Mendieta does score after being put clean through for the second time in two minutes. Martyn has no chance after some bad defending from Leeds.
Valencia 3-0 Leeds

53: A skirmish in the centre circle after Batty floors Aimar with an elbow used to hold off the little Argentine. The referee defuses the situation with Leeds' frustration threatening to boil over.

55: Batty's temper is beginning to get the better of him - with the midfielder's arms raised against Mendieta after another niggly clash.

58: With the Spanish side looking so dangerous on the break Leeds are understandably reluctant to throw too much forward at this stage - Carew wastes a fine chance engineered by Aimar.

59: Aimar is booked after pulling back Dacourt when a Valencia attack breaks down deep inside the Leeds half.

61: A half chance for Smith but Canizares is out swiftly enough to clear the danger. The first substitutions are imminent.

64: Kily Gonzalez, one of the Valencia players with a threat of final suspension, is replaced by Vicente.

66: Juan Sanchez is denied a hat-trick by the post after he lobbed sweetly over Martyn following another neat Valencia move.

69: A second change for Valencia - Didier Deschamps comes on for Aimar.

71: Mendieta is a smart Martyn save away from a second goal - the Spanish midfielder twisted and turned before shooting at the Leeds keeper.

72: The shot is Mendieta's last action - he is replaced by Miguel Angulo, who scored twice in last year's semi-final win. Not a surprising change with Valencia skipper Mendieta on a yellow card.

78: Leeds have a free kick after Viduka was fouled by Ayala on the edge of the area. Harte fires it well over the goal.

81: The game has completely died as a spectacle with Valencia happy with the score and Leeds apparently unable to change it.

82: Batty goes flying in on Carew inside the Leeds area but the referee is in a charitable mood - and the Norwegian is penalised.

85: Five minutes to go and David O'Leary appears to be keeping with the starting 11.

86: Martyn saves Leeds going 4-0 down after Carew breaks through, one-on-one with the English keeper, who palms it away.

90: Into injury time and Valencia are set to make it two finals in two years.

91: The frustration boils over. Smith produces a rash challenge on Vicente, and is sent off - a straight red.

92: Game over and so is the Leeds' dream. Valencia were simply too good for the English side.

Teams:

Valencia: Canizares, Angloma, Ayala, Pellegrino, Aurelio, Albelda, Mendieta, Aimar, Kily Gonzalez, Carew, Sanchez. Subs: Palop, Deschamps, Djukic, Zahovic, Alonso, Angulo, Vicente.
