Morientes out of Bayern clash
Real Madrid striker Fernando Morientes
Morientes has had little cause to celebrate this season
Real Madrid striker Fernando Morientes looks certain to miss next week's Champions League semi-final first leg against Bayern Munich with a groin injury.

The 25-year-old marksman - who has scored four goals in the competition so far - broke down in training on Thursday and had to abandon the session.

But Morientes has decided not to undergo surgery to cure the problem, opting instead for intensive treatment to the affected area.

"When he says he can't continue with the pain then we will go for the operation," said club doctor Juan Carlos Hernandez.

"Until then we have to wait, because you never know what might happen. It is possible that he could be playing inside four weeks because he will respond to the treatment."

The club has said that if he does undergo surgery then the recovery period will be in the region of two to three months.

Morientes' season has been plagued by injury and his prolonged absence would be a major blow for Real, who are looking to retain their European crown as well as win the Spanish league title.
