Anderlecht shock Real
![]() Real Madrid are on course despite Anderlecht defeat
Anderlecht struck late to restore lost pride with a 2-0 win over defending champions Real Madrid in a final Champions League Group D encounter.
Two goals in the last five minutes from substitute Aruna Dindane and Bart Goor ended the Spanish side's unbeaten run in the second phase. Earlier, they were installed as 9-4 favourites to retain their crown, and there is no doubt they will gain renewed inspiration in the quarter-finals. With little at stake - Real were already assured of top spot in the group and Anderlecht could not progress - both sides fielded largely experimental teams. Real started with only five of the players who beat Anderlecht 4-1 in December, and rarely stretched themselves in a scrappy match that only came alive towards the end. With the minutes ticking away, Goor and Tomasz Radzinski carved out a chance down the left flank for Dindane who had only been on the pitch two minutes. Goor added a second, hooking in after goalkeeper Iker Casillas had parried an earlier effort. The result maintained Real's dismal record of not having scored or won in Belgium since 1961.
