Trouble flares in Paris
The Champions League match was halted for 20 minutes
PSG 2-0 Galatasaray

Uefa are to investigate the violence that marred the Champion League clash between Paris St Germain and Galatasaray.

The match at the Parc des Princes was held up for 20 minutes when trouble flared in the crowd and 56 supporters were injured.

From the television last night it is clear that there were some serious incidents that will have to be looked at

"When the reports have been analysed it is likely (the matter) will be referred to a meeting of the disciplinary body of Uefa," said a Uefa spokesman.

"From the television last night it is clear that there were some serious incidents that will have to be looked at. But it would be wrong to comment in detail until we have received the full reports."

Uefa's dicplinary committee are due to meet on 21 March.

The game was stopped by Portuguese referee Vitor Manuel Melo Pereira after rival fans fought and two spectators wearing Galatasaray colours ran on to the pitch after 58 minutes.

The players returned to the dressing rooms while order was restored. The two fans who ran on to the pitch were taken away by security staff.

Galatasaray, last season's Uefa Cup winners, were already assured a place in the last eight but the 2-0 defeat meant they lost top spot in the group to Deportivo La Coruna.

Brazilian striker Christian put PSG ahead before the teams had settled, holding off a challenge from Emre Asik and shooting across visiting goalkeeper Claudio Taffarel.

He made it 2-0 when Laurent Leroy beat the offside trap to scamper away down the right, crossing for the Brazilian to sidefoot home from close range.

The Paris side finished the match with 10 men after midfielder Pierre Ducrocq was sent off after receiving a second yellow card three minutes from the end.

Galatasaray: Taffarel, Popescu, Belozoglu, Yilderim, Suat, Jardel, Aykut, Davala, Asik, Capone, Penbe. Subs: Inan, Hagi, Akyel, Atalay, Akin, Arif, Marcio.
