Madagascar win island battle
Mauritius player Perle
Mauritius could not pick up a win at home
Group 10: Mauritius 0-1 Madagascar

Madagascar moved a step closer to their first Nations Cup final with a narrow 1-0 victory over island neighbours Mauritius on Saturday.

The win cements the Scorpions place at the top of group 10 with six points after their shock 1-0 win over Egypt last month.

In this latest match Ruphin Menakely scored what proved to be the decisive goal for Madagascar in the 26th minute.

The island nations played in front of the smallest crowd of the Nations Cup qualifying weekend, with just over 2,000 people turning up to watch the game in Port Louis.

Egypt and Mauritius are still seeking points in the 2004 qualifying campaign.
