Congo maul Mozambique
Augusto Matine
The result forced Mozambique coach Matine to quit

Group 4: Mozambique 0-3 Congo

Congo turned on the style with a 3-0 win away against Mozambique that caused the resignation of Mambas boss Augusto Matine.

Matine announced his decision to journalists soon after the end of a match that saw his side comprehensively outplayed from midway through the first half.

He admitted that he had failed to produce good and successful players for Mozambique, and was barracked by fans at the end of the game, causing a disturbance that required riot police to step in.

Mozambique had been in control for the first 25 minutes, but after that seemed to quite simply collapse.

Congo began to put on the pressure in midfield, and by half time Mozambique were lucky to still be level.

Congo were in devastating form

But within five minutes of the restart Congo had gone ahead through the head of Tsowron.

From then on Congo were in complete control and on 74 minutes doubled their lead, Quie-Mien netting with a fierce kick from the edge of the area.

And they wrapped it up four minutes later as Bakouma unleashed a thunderbolt from the right hand side.
