Liberia secure Niger win
Prince Daye
Daye netted from a kind rebound
Group 2: Liberia 1-0 Niger

France-based striker Prince Daye scored 10 minutes from time against Niger to put Liberia's 2004 African Nations Cup qualifying campaign back on track.

Former Arsenal and Monaco striker Christopher Wreh, making his return to the side after being left out for the 2002 African Nations Cup finals in Mali earlier this year, squandered a first-half penalty.

The spot kick was awarded in the 37th minute after Alvin Kieh was brought down in the box, but Wreh's shot sailed wide.

Liberia kept up the pressure in the second half and were eventually rewarded when a shot from Isaac Tondo rebounded off the woodwork and Daye, who plays for French first division side Bastia, converted for the 80th-minute winner.

Saturday's victory ended a run of eight matches without a win for the Liberians, who played without many of their European-based players in the match against Niger.

They suffered a 3-0 hiding in their opening group game in Guinea last month.
