Lua Lua celebrates (centre) his winning goal
Derby County 3-2 Newcastle United

DR Congo striker Lomano Lua Lua celebrated his first Premiership goal in England on Saturday and it could prove a vital one for his club side Newcastle.

The 90th minute winner saw Newcastle come back from a two goal deficit against Derby County to win 3-2 and keep their European Champions League hopes alive.

Newcastle currently lie fourth in the Premiership but only three points clear of Chelsea. The Magpies need to retain that fourth position in order to automatically qualify for Europe next season.

When I came on, I just wanted to help the team

So Lua Lua could not have picked a better time to pick up his first Premiership goal in 37 appearances.

It became an even more important result for his club, with another one of their close rivals for the final European slot, Leeds United, winning 1-0 against Aston Villa.

Lua Lua had come on as a substitute for the Magpies and sealed a miraculous recovery for his side.

Malcolm Christie and Lee Morris had put struggling Derby ahead 2-0 five minutes after half time before Laurent Robert, in the 73rd minute, and Kieron Dyer gave Newcastle hope.

Lua Lua's strike then proved priceless.

The DR Congo international said after the match:"When I came on, I just wanted to help the team."

He certainly did that.
