El Hadji Diouf hits out over Senegal snub

Senegal's El Hadji Diouf said his outspoken nature is the reason behind his exclusion from the national team.

Diouf, 30, has not been given a Teranga Lions call-up since April 2009 when he came out of international retirement.

The striker, who is on loan at Rangers from Blackburn, quit the national team and cited bad organisation.

In his absence, coach Lamine Ndiaye moulded a strong squad dominated by young players who have impressed in 2012 Nations Cup qualifiers.

Diouf, who starred at the 2002 World Cup finals, said players who speak their minds are feared by football authorities in Senegal.

"They are scared of me because El-Hadji Diouf is a big name, he's got a big mouth and he says what he thinks," Diouf told BBC Sport.

"That's why some people don't like us around [the national team].

"You know in Africa we have a big problem. The leaders of the federation like the money from football but they don't like football. That's the biggest problem we've got."

Diouf added that other great ex-Senegal players like Jules Bocande and goalkeeper Tony Silva, who have criticised the federation in the past are also being ignored.

"People like Jules Bocande and even Tony Silva can help the young goalkeepers in the team now to get to the high level," the striker stated.

"The guy who is the current goalkeepers' coach, excuse me to say, is too old and never played at the high level. Tony is young, has got the experience at the high level, and he's hungry.

"The guys in charge of the federation are afraid of us. But my generation and the other generations before us can help to improve football in the country with our experiences.

The former African Player of the Year says he is not desperate for a national team call-up insisting he has achieved enough in his football career.
