There is confusion as to whether Lars Olof Mattsson is Sierra Leone coach

There is confusion over who is coaching Sierra Leone's national football team.

The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) insists it has never recognised Swede Lars Olof Mattsson as coach.

Mattsson was recently appointed by the Sierra Leone sports ministry, who pay his salary, to lead the team for the remainder of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

But the SLFA insists that Christian Cole is the coach and will be in charge for the rest of the 2012 campaign.

However the SLFA also admitted its executive committee is yet to consider Mattsson's credentials, which have been sent to them by the sports ministry.

The Swedish coach was originally only going to take charge of the Leone Stars for March's qualifier in Niger.

Despite its stance over Mattsson, SLFA officials were present when he was named as coach for the one-off game and travelled to Niamey for the match.

Subsequently Mattsson was named as coach by the sports ministry for the final three games in 2012 qualifiers but the SLFA now say it does not recognise this decision.

"The SLFA has opened up a challenge with the Sierra Leone government and we'll see who controls who," said sports minister Paul Kamara.

"I want the SLFA to know that the National Sports Council which is under my ministry supervises and controls all sporting bodies in Sierra Leone.

"As far as we are concerned, coach Mattsson is in charge of Leone Stars' remaining matches in the 2012 qualifiers."
