Tanzania, Algeria win in intriguing Group D

Tanzania squad
Tanzania are back in the hunt for a place at the 2012 Nations Cup

Algeria were 1-0 victors over fellow North Africans Morocco on Sunday, thanks to an early Hassan Yebda goal.

Tanzania revived their hopes of reaching the 2012 Cup of Nations after coming from behind to defeat Central African Republic 2-1 on Saturday.

The Taifa Stars needed a late goal from Mbwana Samata to seal victory in Dar-es-Salam in the Group D match.

But it was visitors who stunned the home crowd after just two minutes thanks to Mabide Vianney strike.

Shabaan Nditi restored hope for the side in the 70th minute when he took advantage of a defensive slip-up.

Samata rose highest in the final minute of the game to power a header beyond the visiting goalkeeper to send the home crowd into raptures.

Victory sends the Taifa Stars level on four points with group leaders Central African Republic.

All four teams are now on four points in Group D.
