The coach of the Togo national team, Thierry Froger, has left his post and taken over at French side Nimes.

The coach handed in his resignation to the Togolese Football Federation (FTF) on Tuesday, spokesman Komlan Ekpe said.

"Froger asked the federation to free him from his contract for personal reasons - he also waived his right to financial settlement," Ekpe said.

But on Wednesday Froger was unveiled as the new coach of the French second division side Nimes Olympique.

Froger replaced his fellow Frenchman Hubert Velud as Togo coach in June last year and signed an 18-month contract.

But in the nine games he has overseen since then, the Hawks have not won a single match.

Togo are fourth in Group K of qualifying for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations with only three points from five games so far.

Their next match is against Malawi in Blantyre at the end of March.

Group K is made up of five teams after Togo were re-introduced to the qualifying process, following the lifting of their ban on taking part in the competition.

Two teams from Group K will go through to the finals in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon next year.

Froger's new side are second from bottom in the French second division table.
