SuperSport United advance in Champions League

Serial champion Gavin Hunt is relishing a potential match-up with Al Ahly

South Africa's SuperSport United are through to the second round of the Champions League despite losing 2-1 away to Matlama of Lesotho on Sunday.

The Pretoria-based side advance 3-2 on aggregate after winning the first, round first-leg tie 2-0 two weeks ago.

SuperSport will now clash with Al Ahly, Egypt's record six-time winners in the next round.

Fikru Lemessa broke the deadlock for the visitors on 19 minutes to ignite hopes of an easy progression.

But the home side rallied after the break and drew level in the 55th minute through Litsepe Marabe.

Four minutes later, Motlalepula Chabeli put the home side in the lead but they could not score the vital goals to overturn the deficit.

Former champions Enyimba eased into the second round thanks to a 2-0 home win over Congolese side Michel de Ouenze on Sunday.

The Nigeria qualify 3-0 in aggregate after winning the first leg two weeks ago.

Senegalese side Les Jaraafs also booked their place with a virtuoso away performance that gave them a 3-1 aggregate win over Ports Authority of Gambia.

Jaraafs were held at home in the first leg but they managed a 2-0 win in Banjul to qualify.

St. George of Ethiopia were knocked of by Angolan side Recreativo Caala who won the second leg tie 2-0 on Sunday to advance 2-1 on aggregate.

Zesco United reached the second round of the Champions League on Saturday despite losing 2-1 against Liga Muculmana of Mozambique.

The Zambians advanced to the next stage of the competition 4-2 on aggregate after the defeat in Maputo.

They won the first round, first leg game 3-0 in Lusaka two weeks ago.

Muculmana needed to overturn the deficit and when Manuel Mablango put them in the lead on 25 minutes hopes were high that they could advance.

But Portipher Zulu responded 12 minutes later with a strike from the edge of the box which kept the Zambians in the game.

Dario Monteiro's 74th minute right-foot piledriver was not enough to rescue the tie for the home side.

Meanwhile, MC Algers also advanced to the second round with a 2-0 win over Real de Bangui of Central African Republic on Friday in Algeria.

Midfielder Bouchema Nassim and striker Mohamed Derrag scored in each half to secure a 3-1 aggregate win for the 1976 champions.

The first leg of their clash ended 1-1 in Bangui two weeks ago.

The Algerian champions will play Dynamos of Zimbabwe in the second round.
