Guinea international Pascal Feindouno has joined French club Monaco as a free agent on a six-month contract.

The 29-year-old midfielder was close to signing for Wigan in the English Premier League after having trials with them last week.

Feindouno told a French newspaper that Monaco signed him while he was waiting for papers to prove to Wigan that he was indeed a free agent.

He eventually signed the contract at the airport, a few minutes before the end of the transfer window.

Monaco, who are 19th in the French league need a replacement for midfielder Moussa Maazou.

The Niger international, who had just joined Monaco himself, has been ruled out for several months after twisting his ankle during training.

The signing marks Feindouno's return to the French league where he had previously played for Bordeaux and St Etienne.

Feindouno says he wants to help Monaco stay in the French first division.

Since leaving Saudi Arabia Feindouno has played in Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
