Mali international midfielder Mahamadou Diarra is set to leave Spanish giants Real Madrid for French side Monaco.

The 29-year-old has been at Real since 2006 but has barely figured in the team since Jose Mourinho took over as coach at the Bernabeu in May 2010.

The two clubs have reached an agreement but the deal is subject to Diarra passing a medical and settling his personal terms.

He was due to arrive in Monaco for talks on Thursday.

Before moving to Real in August 2006, Diarra played in the French League with Lyon.

Monaco are stranded just one place off the bottom of Ligue 1 and recently replaced coach Guy Lacombe with Laurent Banide.
