Former Coventry City player Peter Ndlovu is coming out of retirement to play in his native Zimbabwe's top flight.

The 37-year-old former Zimbabwe captain played for 13 seasons in England, six of them in the English top flight with Coventry.

He joined to Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa in 2004, then joining Thanda Royal Zulu before retiring in 2009.

The striker has been signed by First Division club Highfield United.

However, they have immediately loaned him to Black Mambas, a Premier League side with whom they are closely linked.

At Black Mambas he will work with his older brother Madinda, who is the club's technical director, as well as the caretaker coach of the national team.

Ndlovu told a news conference that he decided to finish his career in his home country to pass on his football experience.

I believe I will be able to inspire some youngsters to greater heights and make other players fulfil their dreams and greatness in football.

"The focal point of my return is development of young players, I am coming to help those young players who look up to me realise their dreams," he said.

"With the knowledge that I have I believe I will be able to inspire some youngsters to greater heights and make other players fulfil their dreams and greatness in football."

"I am grateful to be given this opportunity at the end of my career."

Ndlovu has expressed interest both in coaching and in football administration when he retires.

But for now, when Zimbabwe's Premier League kicks-off in a few weeks' time, he will join a small group of Africans who have played in Europe's top leagues and then returned home to see out their career.
