TP Mazembe of DR Congo will try to make history on Tuesday by becoming the first African side to make the final of the Fifa Club World Cup.

Mazembe, who are two-times continental champions, meet Brazil's Internacional in Abu Dhabi in the semi-final.

The Congolese side beat Mexico's Pachuca in their first match, whilst Internacional had a bye to this stage.

Mazembe will be hampered by the absence of Stoppila Sunzu, who was sent off in their opening game.

Only teams from Europe or South America have ever qualified for the final of the Club World Cup and the Mazembe coach Lamine N'Diaye is determined that his side will make a big impact in Abu Dhabi.

"I said when we arrived that our aim was to do better than last year," he said.

"We've done that but we're hungry for more and we're going to give it our very best shot to reach the final."

His opposite number, Internacional coach Carlos Rothy, is prepared for a difficult match.

"Mazembe have a competitive team and they will be difficult, they are tough but they also have technical qualities," Rothy said.

But Internacional striker Alecsandro still thinks his team will have the edge.

"They're a strong, quick team and play exciting football, but I wasn't impressed with them tactically," he said.

"Given the quality we've got, if we can combine with the players breaking from deep, we'll cause them problems."

Should Mazembe win they will meet either Inter Milan, the European champions, or Asian winners Seongnam Ilhwa in the final.
