Faouzi Benzarti has been sacked as the coach of Esperance
Local coach Faouzi Benzarti has been sacked as the boss of Tunisian giants Esperance after disappointment in this year's continental competition.
Benzarti was given the boot on Tuesday following the disappointment in the Champions League final two weeks ago.
The club said that the coach's departure was "inevitable" after he fell out with president Hamdi Meddeb.
Benzarti's assistant Maher Kanzari will assume charge of the team until a permanent replacement is found.
"I can't work under pressure," insisted Benzarti, who said he accepted the directors' choice and hoped that his departure "will be beneficial to the team".
The decision to fire Benzarti follows on from Esperance's recent humiliating defeat by DR Congo side TP Mazembe in the final of the Champions League.
TP Mazembe won the first leg 5-0 in Lubumbashi before closing out victory with a 1-1 draw in Tunis on 13 November.
