Former Cameroon coach Arie Haan has been ordered to pay more than US$650,000 to the country's football federation (Fecafoot).

Football's world governing body Fifa has ruled that the Dutchman broke his contract to coach the national side.

Haan signed a two-year deal with Cameroon in August 2006 but left in February 2007.

The coach claimed at the time that there was 'interference' from within Fecafoot.

Fifa said the ruling could still be challenged at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

The single judge of Fifa's players' status committee has decided on the merits of the case but has yet to communicate the reasons to either party.

"As a result the decision is not yet final and binding," Fifa said in a statement to the BBC.

Haan is currently coaching in China and has previously led the Albanian national team.

As a player he was a key member of the Netherlands team which reached the final of the World Cup in both 1974 and 1978.
