Algeria's Kabylie earn Champions League semi-final spot

Al-Ahly and JS Kabylie played a 1-1 draw in Cairo

Algeria's JS Kabylie are the first team to earn a semi-final spot in this year's African Champions League after a 1-1 draw with Egypt's Al Ahly.

The Egyptians needed a home victory to maintain the pressure on their visitors and Mohamed 'Geddo' Nagy gave them the lead after 22 minutes.

But Kabylie drew level five minutes later through midfielder Saad Tedjar.

The result means Kabylie have ten points while Ahly have five with two games remaining in Group B.

Ahly or Nigeria's Heartland can still join Kabylie if they win their remaining two games but they'll have to play each other in Cairo, making it impossible for both teams to overhaul the Algerians.

Heartland kept up their push for a place in the semi-final with a 2-1 victory over Ismaili in Owerri.

The victory means the Nigerians now have four points, while Ismaili are bottrom of the group with three points.

Heartland fans were silenced in the first half when Mohamed Soliman Ali's 29th minute strike, gave the visitors the lead.

But the Nigerians pressed on and central defender ThankGod Ike equalised nine minutes later.

Heartland fans had to wait till the 85th minute when midfielder Chinedu Efugh scored their second to see their team get their first win of the group stage.

In Group A, defending champions TP Mazembe of the DR Congo were thrashed 3-0 by Esperance in Rades near Tuins.

The Tunisians were in control right from the start and 20 minutes into the game, Nigeria-import Michael Eneramo put Esperance ahead.

Eneramo scored his second of the game two minutes after the break, before defender Hicheri sealed victory three minutes from time.

It means Esperance now have nine points, two ahead of second placed Mazembe, with Entente Setif and Dynamos on four and three points respectively.

Zimbabwe's Dynamos were also beaten 3-0 in Algeria by Entente Setif.

Esperance now need just a point from their next two games to ensure they qualify for the semi-finals.
