Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo has joined newly promoted Italian Serie A side Cesena on a one-year loan deal from rivals Udinese.

The 21-year-old impressed while on loan in Spain last season with third division outfit Granada.

His 17 goals in 27 games helped Granada win promotion to the second division for the first time in 23 years.

"I have been guaranteed playing time [by Cesena], which promises an exciting season," Ighalo told BBC Sport.

"To play prominently in the Serie A will be a dream come true - I still cherish my only goal in Serie A from the 2008/09 season, so I am confident hard work will take me there."

Ighalo captained the Nigeria Under-20 side that lost to Germany in the second round of the 2009 Fifa World Cup in Egypt.

He was part of the Nigeria squad during their 2008 Olympic qualifiers but failed to secure a place in the team for the Games themselves.
