Nigeria sports minister Ibrahim Bio has stepped in to try to defuse the simmering row between Shaibu Amodu and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The coach is furious after being replaced by Swede Lars Lagerback as Nigeria's boss at the World Cup.

Amodu is demanding US$2m in damages and has reported the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS).

Mr Bio has asked Amodu to withdraw the matter from CAS while a committee investigates the impasse.

"I have set up a committee to look into his matter and we are looking at the legal agreement between him [Amodu] and NFF," the sports minister said.

"I've directed the ministry and NFF to withdraw the matter from the Court of Arbitration for Sport and address it and report back to me in two weeks time.

"I have given them an assignment and I'm waiting for them to give me a reply."

Amodu led the Super Eagles to the Africa Cup of Nations in Angola in January but fell out of favour after the tournament.

Meanwhile, the NFF has ruled out the possibility of assistant coach Daniel Amokachi combining his role as a television analyst with handling the Super Eagles at the World Cup in South Africa.

But NFF president Sani Lulu Abdullahi has told the BBC that such a plan contravenes his contract with the federation.

"We can confidently say that will not happen because he has a contract with us and he will respect that," Lulu said

"A dual role at the World Cup is highly impossible and we will not allow that from him or anyone."

Nigeria have been drawn in a group alongside Greece, Argentina and South Korea at the World Cup.
