Etoile coach sacked after failure in Tunisian league

Etoile du Sahel v Monomatapa
Etoile have struggled to make an impact in recent years

Former African champions Etoile du Sahel have sacked their Dutch coach Piet Hamberg.

The move follows their 3-0 defeat at the hands of their great rivals Club Africain earlier this week.

The loss means they will struggle to finish in the top two this season to earn a place in next year's African Champions League.

Etoile have already been knocked out of this season's Confederation Cup by ASFA of Niger.

Hamberg had been in charge of the team for only a few months, having taken charge at the end of last year.

He will be replaced by assistant coaches Mohamed Mkacher and Naoufel Chebil, who will be in charge until a permanent appointment is made.

Etoile have struggled since winning the African Champions League in 2007 when they beat Egypt's Al Ahly in the final.

Last year they were beaten by Zimbabwe's Monomatapa.

Hamberg is a former Academy Manager at English giants Liverpool and was an assistant coach with Togo at the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
