Bulgarian giants CSKA Sofia have terminated the contract of former Cameroon international goalkeeper Daniel Bekono.

The 31-year-old was fired for what the Bulgarian club described as "disciplinary offences".

His dismissal was confirmed by CSKA sporting director Atanas Karaivanov.

Bekono, who has 37 caps, was part of the Cameroon team that won the 2000 African Cup of Nations.

He was also a member of the country's U23 team that won gold at the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000.

Bekono joined CSKA from Beroe Stara Zagora in 2008 and helped them win the league title and domestic Super Cup.

In recent months, however, he lost the battle for a regular place to Zdravko Chavdarov and Ivan Karadzhov and failed to turn up for several training sessions without permission.

In 2006, he was named Beroe captain and became the first black player to captain a side in the Bulgarian championship.
