Ghana's number one goalkeeper Richard Kingson has been given a vote of confidence by his club manager.

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez believes Kingson will do well at the Africa Cup of Nations and the World Cup despite not playing for his club.

The 31-year-old Kingson has not played a first-team game for the club since the end of last season.

Ghana will play Togo, Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso in the group stages of the Nations Cup in January.

According to Martinez, Kingson will do well at both competitions.

"Obviously, Richard hasn't been playing too much which can be frustrating and sometimes we need to address those situations," he said.

"But looking at his day-to-day work, he has been a real good pro and when you're like that you get your rewards and what you deserve."

At the World Cup in South Africa, Ghana are drawn to play Germany, Australia and Serbia and Martinez says Kingson's qualities as a goalkeeper will shine through.

"What's important is working hard in training and setting your own standards and Richard has been doing that all season," he explained.

"His standards on a daily basis have been fantastic."
