Young Ghanaian star Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has signed a four-and-a-half year deal with Italian side Udinese.

He will join the Serie A club in January, when the European transfer window opens.

He impressed during the recent U20 World Cup, scoring the winning penalty in the final as Ghana beat Brazil.

"We chose the club because Udinese have a very young team," his agent Goran Milovanovic told the BBC.

A series of top Ghanaian stars, including Sulley Muntari, Asamoah Gyan and Stephen Appiah have started their European careers at Udinese and that was also a draw for the youngster.

"He will prove his quality and his potential very fast," Milovanovic said.

Agyemang-Badu has played a number of times for the Black Stars, Ghana's senior national team, and will hope to be involved with the squad for both the Africa Cup of Nations and the 2010 World Cup.

That could mean him delaying his debut for Udinese because the Nations Cup kicks off on 10 January and his contract only comes into effect at the beginning of the year.

The deal, including medical checks, was completed on Wednesday night.
