Kenya turmoil ahead of Nigeria match

Kenya's national team is in turmoil and will face Nigeria without their coach Antoine Hey, as they fight for a place at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Their German coach Antoine Hey will not be taking charge of the team for Saturday's 2010 World Cup qualifier against the Super Eagles.

Football Kenya Limited, (FKL), say that Antoine Hey has not conducted the team's training sessions for the last three days.

"We've been having some problems with Antoine Hey because of disciplinary action he took over some players in March" says Titus Kasuve, a senior vice-president of FKL.

"We are playing a very important match and we requested him to call these players and look at them. If he does not need them, he doesn't have to play them.

"But he has refused to respect the decision of the national association."

The Harambee Stars need to beat Nigeria in Nairobi on Saturday and hope that Mozambique lose against Tunisia in order to qualify for the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations.

However the Super Eagles still have a slim chance of qualifying for the World Cup in South Africa.

For that to happen the Super Eagles would have to win in Nairobi, and hope for Tunisia lose in Maputo.

Kenya's confusion could be playing into Nigeria's hands.

FKL have appointed assistant coach Twahir Muhidin to take charge of Saturdays match.

Kasuve refused to be drawn on whether this was the end of Hey's tenure as Kenya coach.

"It depends on how he's going to handle this issue", he said.

"There are other issues that we are not happy about that we need to discuss with him."
