Mazembe scrape into Champs Lge final

African Champions League trophy
TP Mazembe are in the final for the first time in 39 years

TP Mazembe of DR Congo have scraped into the final of the African Champions League after a 2-0 home defeat to Sudan's Al Hilal.

Al Hilal fought back after being beaten 5-2 in Omdurman a fortnight ago, but it wasn't enough as TP Mazembe advanced with a 5-4 aggregate scoreline.

Zimbabwean Edward Sadomba scored both goals in a seven-minute spell in the first half.

TP Mazembe will face Nigeria's Heartland in the final.

Al Hilal coach Paulo Campos had promised before the match that his team would walk away with a 4-0 win, the margin of victory needed to reach the final.

But it wasn't to be as the twice African Champions tightened up at the back in the second half.

It's the first time the Congolese club have reached the final since 1970.

Nigeria's Heartland will host the first leg in Owerri on the weekend of 31 October - 1 November.

Then it will be back to Lubumbashi for the second leg a week later.

The winner will receive a record prize packet of US$1.5 million, a 50% increase from last year.

The victors will also be invited to compete at the Fifa Club World Cup in the United Arab Emirates in December.
