Mohamed Kallon hopes his return will boost interest in Sierra Leone league

Sierra Leone footballing legend Mohamed Kallon has returned home to play in his country's top division.

The 30-year-old will turn out for the club he owns and that bears his name, Kallon FC.

Kallon became a free agent after his contract with Dubai-based club Al-Sha'ab ended in June.

He told BBC Sport he decided to return home to help promote the Sierra Leone Premier League.

"My homecoming is a temporary one and it's just for three months but it'll be fruitful for the Sierra Leone premier league," Kallon told BBC Sport.

"It's aimed at promoting the Sierra Leone league because I see myself as a role model in Sierra Leone football and I believe I'll achieve my objective.

"I know my presence in the league will see many Sierra Leoneans get attracted to the Sierra Leone league and this will help the local game grow.

"I think this is the right time for me to do it as people are now showing some amount of interest in the local game."

Kallon is also hoping that his three-month stint in Sierra Leone will trigger a return to Europe.

"I'll also use the league to keep myself fit for the next European transfer window in January."

"At the moment, I'm in the process of rebuilding myself after sustaining a groin injury I picked up last October during a World Cup qualifier against Nigeria.

"Surely I have many offers on the table but I just need to be fully fit to accept one of them."

Kallon will officially be unveiled as a Kallon FC player on Monday.

The league kicks off on 24 October, but Kallon will make his debut four days later against Old Edwardians, the club where he started his career.

Kallon has turned out for 15 clubs in his career among them Italian giants, Inter Milan and French club Monaco.
