Ivory Coast secured a place at the World Cup finals in South Africa next year after clinching a 1-1 draw with Malawi on Saturday.

Their Group E opponents Burkina Faso sealed their place at Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday after beating Guinea 1-0.

England-based striker Didier Drogba struck within two minutes of coming on as a substitute to secure the draw.

The Elephants, needing only a draw, had to come from behind to win the game.

Jacob Ngwira gave the home side the lead in the 64th minute after taking advantage of a mix-up.

Drogba's immediate intervention from the substitutes' bench put the favourites back on course and they held out for the point they needed.

The Chelsea striker's goal takes his international tally to 39 goals in 57 internationals.

The result brought an end to the Ivorians' 100 percent run in the group but confirmed a second successive trip to the World Cup for the west African nation.

The Elephants return to the World Cup after the 2006 edition in Germany, where they failed to emerge from a group also comprising Argentina, Holland and Serbia-Montenegro.

Ghana have already qualified from Group D, while South Africa qualify as hosts.

Meanwhile, Moumouni Dagano scored a goal in each half to seal the victory for the Stallions and seal their place at the Nations Cup in Angola next year..

Dagano found the net in the 37th minute and added another goal in the 60th.

Mamadou Bah pulled one back for Guinea in the 83rd of the match played at Ohene Djan stadium in Accra.

Ivory Coast has topped the group with 13 points and is one of three African teams already qualified for the 2010 World Cup.

Burkina Faso is second with nine points.
