Ghana topped their Under-20 World Cup Group D after a 2-2 draw with Uruguay.

Mohamed Rabiu's superb shot put Ghana ahead on 54 minutes, with Ransford Osei driving home to extend their lead.

Nicolas Lodeiro fired home from close range to make it 2-1 and after Rabiu was sent off, Abel Hernandez pulled Uruguay level with a late equaliser.

England finished bottom of Group D after a 1-1 draw with Uzbekistan, while Nigeria reached the knockout stages thanks to a superior goal difference.

Nigeria' s dismal Group B campaign has included defeats by Spain and Venezuela, but they stay in the tournament after their 5-0 win over Tahiti on Thursday.

Four of the third-place teams qualify for the knockout rounds and the United States have an inferior goal difference, as do Uzbekistan.

By finishing top of Group D on goal difference, Ghana avoid a potential showdown with Brazil, who will meet Uruguay in the last 16 if they win Group E after Saturday's final round of games.

Ghana, who like Uruguay had won their opening two games, nearly broke the deadlock on 24 minutes when Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu hit a powerful strike, but Uruguay keeper Martin Rodriguez made an impressive save.

In the second half it was Ghana who asserted themselves more, and Rabiu put the Black Satellites in front with a superb shot from the edge of the area early in the second half.

On 70 minutes Osei doubled Ghana's lead, meeting a low cross perfectly.

But Uruguay came back into the game with a perfect ball from substitute Gaston Ramirez to the highly-rated Nicolas Lodeiro, who fired home from close range.

Rabiu was dismissed for a wild challenge and Ghana had to withstand severe pressure from the South Americans, who grabbed a draw thanks to Hernandez's late poked finish.
