South Africa's women's team beat Switzerland 3-2

South Africa's ladies grabbed a 3-2 win over Switzerland in their final game at a four-nations tournament in Holland.

African Footballer of the Year Noko Matlou, Mamphashe Popela and Janine Van Wyk all scored for South Africa.

"I'm really proud they managed to win in style," team manager Fran Hilton-Smith told BBC Sport.

"It's a learning curve - they're building on what they learnt at their last event in Cyprus," coach Augustine Makalanae said.

Banyana Banyana started the tournament slowly, losing 5-0 to China in the opening game of the tournament.

Captain Kylie Anne Lowe said that the defeat by China had not dented the teams desire to gain international experience.

"We know that we made mistakes, we've worked on them in training and we won't make the same mistakes again," she said.

The team then rallied in their second game and only narrowly lost 3-2 to hosts Holland, with goals from Lebogang Thobejane and Popela.

The South African community in Holland turned out in force to support Banyana Banyana, waving flags, dancing and singing.

"Seeing the team reminds me of home. It was great to be here and see them," one fan said.

"This is a great prelude for 2010 showing that South Africans are passionate and crazy about soccer."
