Former Brazil defender Carlos Mozer has been named as the new coach of Moroccan club Raja Casablanca.

He signed a one-year contract and takes over from Portuguese coach Jose Romao, who left the club despite winning the championship last month.

Mozer, 48, played for French club Olympique Marseille and Benfica of Portugal, and he played for Brazil at the 1990 World Cup finals.

He won the Angolan championship with Interclube in 2007, and previously worked as an assistant to Jose Mourinho at Benfica.

Three-time continental champions Raja are one of the giants of African football, but their last Champions League title came 10 years ago.
