Dismissal triggered Pfister exit

Otto Pfister
Pfister says he will not go back on his decision to quit

Otto Pfister says he resigned as Cameroon coach after the dismissal of his assistant Gweha Ikouam.

The German is also adamant that his decision to walk away from the Indomitable Lions was irreversible.

He blamed the Ministry of Sport's decision to fire his trusted assistant and replace him with three officials.

"As this decision was taken without consulting me, I have chosen to resign," Pfister told

He added: "I insist on praising the work of Mr Gweha, the best assistant I have ever worked with."

Pfister walked away from the Cameroon squad rather than join them at a training camp in Belgium where they are preparing for next month's 2010 World Cup qualifiers against Morocco and Gabon.

Pfister, who was in charge of Togo at the 2006 World Cup finals, handed his resignation letter to representatives of the Cameroon Football Federation.

Pfister was a controversial appointment when he took over Cameroon but it was forced through by the government.
