Eric Addo seals Roda loan move

Ghana defender Eric Addo has joined Dutch league strugglers Roda JC Kerkrade until the end of the season.

The 30-year-old moves on loan from league leaders PSV Eindhoven after failing to hold down a first team place this season.

The defender cited a lack of playing time as his reason for wanting to leave to enhance his position in the Black Stars.

"I do not have a chance to play therefore I must make this choice," Addo said.

"For me it is important that I play. It is a difficult step for me, but not playing is not fun. It is a key period for Ghana and I have to be fit."

Addo will complete the switch on 19 January, a day after the two sides meet in a league encounter.

PSV coach Huub Stevens says he understands why Addo has decided to leave.

"It is the desire of Eric to play more and I think it is understandable. I am sorry if he goes because you lose a professional guy," Stevens said

"But we do not begrudge him and have a lot of alternatives in that position."

Addo was hampered by a knee injury in 2000 after his record US$7.3 million move from Belgium's Club Brugge.

He recovered and spent two seasons on loan with rivals Roda JC Kerkrade in 2002 before returning to PSV in 2004.

At Brugge he was viewed as a potential superstar on the European stage after bursting into the first team ranks and helping them to win a Belgian championship in 1998.

Addo won the Young Player of the Year award in Belgium in 1998.

Meanwhile, Angola striker Santana has agreed to sign for Portuguese club Vitoria Guimaraes from Angolan champions Petro Atletico.

Santana was the top scorer in Angola's Girabola league in 2007.

No further details of the deal were available.
