Confusion over Kenya coach

The Kenyan flag
Caretaker Kenyan coach Francis Kimanzi has said he is not available to lead the national team at next month's east African championship (the Cecafa Cup).

He is unhappy about the commitment of the football authorities to preparing for the tournament in Uganda.

However it is unclear whether Kimanzi is willing to lead Kenya in the final round of qualifying for the 2010 World Cup, which begins in March next year.

Kimanzi, who is currently in Zambia on a coaching course, has been at loggerheads with the country's governing body Football Kenya Limited (FKL) over his contract.

The Harambee Stars have been without a full time coach for seven months after the sacking of Jacob "Ghost" Mulee.

"I am not ready to wait for people who have no sense of direction," said Kimanzi before his departure for Lusaka.

"The FKL knows that the team should have started training for the Cecafa Cup three weeks ago but right now there are no such arrangements in place and the players have gone on holidays."

As well as coaching Mathare United to the Kenyan league title this year, Kimanzi lead the national team to the final phase of the 2010 World Cup qualifiers.

Kenya will play Nigeria, Tunisia and Mozambique in the qualifiers, with the top team in each group qualifying for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

The top three sides in the group will get places at the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations in Angola.

Meanwhile Fifa has officially recognised FKL lead by Mohammed Hatimy as football's governing body in Kenya.

In a statement Sepp Blatter the president of football's world governing body congratulated Hatimy and the Kenyan football community on the establishment of the new body.

However the Kenyan government insist that FKL is not registered with them yet and therefore is operating illegally.
