World Cup stadium strike resolved

Green Point stadium site
The 2010 venue is due to be completed by the end of 2009

Workers have ended a strike at the site of Cape Town's Green Point stadium and resumed work on the World Cup venue.

Construction workers walked out on Friday in a dispute over bonus payments, but returned after talks resumed.

"We will make up the time and still be ready to hand over in December [2009]," city spokesman Pieter Cronje said.

However, a visit by South African President Kgalema Motlanthe has been postponed indefinitely.

Mr Motlanthe was scheduled to tour the 55,000-seater venue on Saturday.

The strike is the latest in a series of labour disputes across the 10 venues being built or renovated for the the 2010 World Cup finals.
