Liberian officials break deadlock

Liberian football officials have broken the long-running deadlock with the country's top club sides, after talks held at Fifa headquarters in Zurich.

Many of the country's top-flight clubs have been locked in a long-running dispute with the Liberia Football Association (LFA) over what they see as poor organisation of the league.

Fifa intervened in the row in September and heard allegations from Premiership clubs that the LFA had taken funds for football development as personal loans - a charge the LFA denies.

On Tuesday, officials from Liberia's football association, ministry of youth and sport, domestic clubs and Fifa agreed terms to end the impasse.

"All parties agreed to review and amend the statutes governing the Liberian FA and bring them in line with Fifa's Standard Statutes," a statement on Fifa's website said.

"The Liberian FA also agreed to review its administrative [and] financial regulations.

"Additionally, the Liberian FA committed to provide the ministry of youth and sport with a yearly financial report outlining the use of all their resources."

A new set of rules governing the league will be drawn up for the 2008/2009 season and will be adopted in the next 60 days.

"Each club involved in the league has agreed to commit to the standards laid down," Fifa said.
